First things first,
Mountain Homestead sincerely thanks Sharon Astyk for her wonderful online class, Food Preservation and Storage Techniques.
May all the good you do come back to you threefold, Ms. Astyk.
Be sure and check out her site and books, Depletion & Abudance and A Nation of Farmers.
Since I'm booked up for extra work in August and almost a full month of cob in September, I feel like I gotta try to cram in as much time as I can to making jerky, cheese and filling up the pantry shelves before I hit the herbal fests.
I keep telling myself what we really need out here is somebody with time, talent and experience to do this kind of stuff. Instead, we have 'me.' Hopefully enthusiasm and a willingness to put in long hours counts for something in the kitchen.
Another Author Plug: If you find this building stuff at all interesting, be sure and check out Christopher Alexander, author of four books including Nature of Order and Pattern Language.
Ciao for now!

Very interesting post. Thanks for great links
I'm sure you are up to the challenge and will keep us informed. The skills you now learn will be needed in the future and passed on to others. Except for books I could turn my back on it all and go back to living in the bush with no regrets.
I hope you're correct rainywalker because our family is swiftly approaching the 'no looking back' inflection point.
